We have an exciting opportunity at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) Cymru for a Manufacturing Research Engineer who wishes to make a meaningful impact across Wales and the UK manufacturing sector. At the AMRC Cymru, you will join a collaborative, diverse team of talented professionals in a state-of-the-art research facility. Your work will directly contribute to innovative projects for industrial partners and the wider manufacturing supply chain, with opportunities to shape both physical and digital demonstrators. About the Role As a Manufacturing Research Engineer, you will support the technical delivery of multiple concurrent projects, utilising your skills in process modelling, digitalisation, and automation to create practical solutions for real-world challenges. Your main duties will include developing and implementing digital simulation models, analysing outputs, and presenting findings to a wide range of stakeholders. You will contribute to the development of demonstrators and prototypes, advise on technical challenges, and stay at the forefront of Industry 4.0 Digital Manufacturing Technologies. The role also involves liaising with cross-functional teams, engaging in knowledge transfer and outreach activities, managing project timelines and resources, and assisting with risk assessments, project management, and procurement. You will be expected to deliver clear technical reports and presentations, and participate in public engagement to promote the centre’s research excellence. Who We Are Looking For We seek candidates with a 2:1 or above in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent industrial experience), with a technical background in at least two of the following: process modelling and simulation, digitalisation, automation, or lean manufacturing. You will have experience in a similar environment and proven ability in discrete event simulation software. You must demonstrate a strong understanding of Industry 4.0 and the benefits of applied manufacturing technology for business efficiency and decarbonisation. Experience in risk assessment writing, project management, and project scoping is desirable. You will possess excellent IT and communication skills, and be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, innovative environment, adapting to deadlines and changing priorities.
