We\'re looking for a Staff Nurse with a passion for making a real difference to Older people experiencing mental health issues.

Sandford Ward is a 14 bedded Male Older Adult Mental Health Inpatient ward. We specialise in the care and treatment of Male older adults experiencing mental ill health.

The Older Adult Mental Health wards provide acute psychiatric inpatient assessment and treatment of Older people within Oxfordshire with either a functional and/or organic illness for both male and female older adults within the Fulbrook Centre. Our ward team consists of Nurses, Registered Nurse Associates, Consultant Psychiatrist, Occupational Therapist, Physio Therapists, Psychology and an Activity Coordinator.

Successful applicants should have strong skills regarding physical co-morbidities and the management of our patients physical health co-morbidities or the passion and drive to learn about how to support our patients to manage them.


Main duties of the job

As a Mental Health Nurse, you\'ll be responsible for:

* The co-ordination and management of the ward for a span of duty
* Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care in co-production with patients and carers
* Develop effective risk management plans, using the risk formulation framework and timely review of the risk management plan, identifying opportunities for positive risk taking in conjunction with the client, carers/significant others and the ward team

You must have excellent communication skills, be reliable, punctual and work well in a team, whilst being adaptable to changing situations.

You will need to be able to work calmly and efficiently within a busy and intensive environment dealing with unpredictable situations whilst remaining focused on providing a person-centred and recovery approach to care and treatment.

Essential criteria

* RMN qualified
* Educated to degree level.


Desirable criteria

* Knowledge/ qualification in psychosocial interventions


Knowledge and Experience


Essential criteria

* Experience of working in mental health inpatient setting.
* Able to organise /prioritise time effectively
* Able to listen to and communicate effectively with service users, carers, and colleagues at all levels.
* Experience of working within MDT
* Experience of providing clinical/management supervision


Desirable criteria

* Experience in supporting learning – students or healthcare assistance
* Knowledge of MHA
* Experience of Working with Older Adults


Management


Essential criteria

* Able to coordinate a shift and allocate tasks
* Able to handle complaints effectively


Desirable criteria

* Experience of change management and change management models.


Other work related


Essential criteria

* Ability to undertake PEACE training.
* Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development


Desirable criteria

* Ability to support patient physical health needs and ability to lead health promotion initiatives such as smoking cessation.
