Senior Works Manager Job Overview
A growing and well-established civil engineering contractor is looking for an experienced senior operational leader to oversee multiple projects across the South. The role focuses on ensuring safe, efficient delivery of projects and maintaining high standards of HSEQ compliance.
* Oversee the delivery of multiple civil engineering projects, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
* Lead and coordinate site teams, including Works Managers, Supervisors, and subcontractors.
* Plan and manage labour, plant, and materials across projects to ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
* Work closely with Area and Project Managers to meet programmes and mitigate risks.
* Drive high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance across all sites.
* Monitor site performance, productivity, and progress, reporting to senior leadership.
* Support workforce planning, training and development of site teams.
* Act as a key escalation point for site-based challenges, providing hands‑on support where required.
* Ensure effective communication between site teams, commercial and operational departments.
* Oversee site documentation including RAMS, permits, inspections, and compliance records.
* Promote a positive site culture focused on safety, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Senior Works Manager Job Requirements
* HNC/D (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
* NVQ Level 6 / 7 in Construction Management (desirable).
* SMSTS, CSCS and relevant site safety certifications.
* Proven experience as a Senior Site Manager / Works Manager within civil engineering or infrastructure.
* Strong understanding of construction delivery, sequencing and site operations.
* Experience managing multiple projects or large‑scale schemes.
* Excellent leadership and communication skills.
* Strong knowledge of HSEQ legislation and site compliance.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Willingness to travel to sites as required.
