Royal Cornwall Hospital offers a comprehensive pain management service across Cornwall, providing outpatient services to St Austell and Penzance as well as care at the Royal Cornwall Hospital itself. The acute and chronic pain service offers both inpatient and outpatient care and works closely with the palliative care services within Cornwall to provide a community‑based intrathecal pain service where required.
A purpose‑built clinic provides space for outpatient work and minor procedures, with allocated X‑ray theatre sessions for more complex procedures. Major procedures such as spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pumps are undertaken in a dedicated operating theatre session, currently at St Michaels Hospital. Inpatient beds are available by arrangement.
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, employing approximately 6,700 staff with a budget of around £580 million. We serve a population of about 500,000 people.
