About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Domestic Abuse Practitioner to support BAME women and their children within a specialist refuge service in Leicester.
You will provide safe, culturally sensitive support to individuals experiencing domestic abuse, forced marriage, honour-based violence, and other forms of harm. This is a frontline role where you will help residents rebuild their confidence, independence, and wellbeing in a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage referrals, admissions, and risk/needs assessments
* Provide 1:1 emotional and practical support, including safety planning
* Support access to housing, benefits, legal, health, and education services
* Advocate for residents and attend key appointments
* Deliver culturally appropriate support to BAME communities
* Develop and review personalised support plans
* Support safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
* Assist with the day-to-day running of the refuge
* Maintain accurate records and case notes
* Participate in on-call/out-of-hours support
Requirements
* Experience supporting BAME women affected by domestic abuse or similar
* Background in social care, support work, or safeguarding (2-3 years)
* Ability to speak at least one relevant BAME language
* Strong communication, advocacy, and organisational skills
* Ability to manage complex and high-risk situations
* Flexible approach to working hours (including on-call)
* Commitment xsngvjr to equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice
* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable
* Experience in the voluntary sector
* Knowledge of NRPF, immigration, or complex needs
* First Aid qualification
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
