About the role



We’ve got a great opportunity to join our Network Design & Construction Team as our Mains Layer in Essex. You’ll be responsible for laying new water mains/services, ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards and improving water network resilience. This role demands high standards across varied tasks:

The core function requires disciplined execution across the full spectrum of water infrastructure installation. This encompasses the precise laying, alignment, jointing, and hydrostatic testing of new water distribution mains to stringent engineering and regulatory specifications.

You will be fully responsible for the safe management of the worksite, which involves the skilled operation of site plant (excavators and dumpers). You must be proficient in managing deep excavations, including the strict, compliant use of trench support and shoring systems.

The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in the construction industry and be skilled in various aspects of the trade.

This role requires proficiency with hand tools and power tools. Digger and dumper tickets would be an advantage. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and efficiency of the renewal of our ageing water assets.

You will be conducting excavation on public highways, specific sites, and private lands.

You will be responsible for the delivery of work scheduled in accordance with our service level agreements or customer service standards.

About you

We are looking for are highly competent individual who can hit the ground running on laying mains/service projects. You must possess a minimum of three years demonstrated experience specifically focused on water mains and service pipe installation. Technical proficiency in multiple pipes jointing techniques, including the use of mechanical and fusion fittings, is required.

We are looking for a reliable, safety minded operative who can interpret basic design drawings and manage their workload efficiently, delivering high-quality, durable work that stands the test of time.

We seek a proactive team member who can communicate effectively with site managers/supervisors and ensure all daily work, from trench excavation to final backfill, meets the strictest quality and environmental standards.

This means that it’s important you have proven experience delivering an unrivalled customer service.

You will be required to operate machinery on site and will also be using the latest technology to help us with our data upkeep.

You will require a full driving licence, ideally with towing experience.

Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.
