An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and experienced Head Greenkeeper to lead the Greenkeeping and Estates team at Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel & Country Club. Reporting directly to the Director of Golf and Estates, you will be responsible for the daily management, presentation, and performance of the golf course and wider estate.
About Hanbury Manor
Part of the Marriott Hotel Group, Hanbury Manor features a championship golf course designed and built under the supervision of Jack Nicklaus II and Golden Bear Design Associates.
We maintain a modern Toro machinery fleet and operate a Rain Bird irrigation system with full-course coverage, supported by Rain Bird Cirrus 8 software.
In addition to the championship course, the estate includes:
1. A professional sports training facility used by international teams
2. Extensive landscaped grounds and gardens, including a historic walled garden
Hanbury Manor has proudly hosted numerous major tournaments, including:
3. European Tour: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2020
4. Legends Tour: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024
5. Ladies European Tour: 1996, 2025, and returning July 2026
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
6. Lead and manage the daily operation of the Greenkeeping and Estates department
7. Develop and implement work programmes in collaboration with the Director of Golf and Estates
8. Ensure the course and estate are presented to the highest possible standards
9. Utilise knowledge of maintenance, construction, and renovation practices across all turf and landscape areas
10. Support tournament preparation and delivery
11. Maintain an efficient, motivated, and high-performing team
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for an individual who demonstrates strong leadership, technical knowledge, and a passion for turf management. Ideally, you will bring:
12. Full UK driving licence
13. Self-motivation with a positive, practical “can‑do” attitude
14. 2–3 years’ experience as a Deputy Head Greenkeeper or in a comparable leadership role
15. Minimum NVQ Level 3 in Sports Turf; BSc in Turfgrass Science desirable
16. PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certifications
17. Basic chainsaw qualifications (advantageous but not essential)
18. Knowledge of irrigation operation and repairs, especially modern systems
19. Competence in turf equipment setup and basic mechanical skills
20. Flexibility to meet business needs, including weekend work
21. Strong attention to detail with the ability to deliver consistently high standards
22. A commitment to professional development within the turfgrass industry
23. Tournament experience (an advantage)
