In response to NHS England's recent Strategy and Service Specification for the future of Genomics services in England, Newcastle Teaching Hospitals, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Children's Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals have formed the North East and Yorkshire Genomics Laboratory Hub (NEY GLH); an exciting collaboration to provide services for Genomics across Yorkshire and Humber and the North.
Position
Registered Clinical Scientist – Bioinformatician (Genomics)
1 x permanent Band 7 Clinical Scientist – Bioinformatician (based at either Leeds, Sheffield or Newcastle NEY GLH sites)
37.5 hours per week, full time
Location
* NEY GLH Central Laboratory – St James’s University Hospital, Leeds
* Sheffield Diagnostic Genetics Service – Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust
* Newcastle Genetics Laboratory – Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Key Responsibilities
* Provide highly specialised bioinformatics expertise to support the diagnostic platforms used within NEY GLH, including implementation of methods for data handling, analysis and interpretation that impact patient care.
* Collaborate within the NEY GLH virtual team across sites to plan activities and develop the bioinformatics capability of NEY GLH.
* Contribute to out‑of‑hours rotas, including weekends and bank holidays as required.
* Work with clinicians and laboratory staff to ensure bioinformatics methods meet regulatory and quality standards.
* Participate in project teamwork across rare disease and cancer research and diagnostic initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
HCPC‑registered (or soon to be registered) Clinical Scientist with a background in Bioinformatics (Genomics).
Experience working within a clinical laboratory environment and with genomics data.
Candidates in their final year of a Scientist Training Programme (STP) in Bioinformatics are welcome.
For candidates not yet registered, a commitment to obtain HCPC registration within 12 months is required.
