Overview
You will be responsible for leading a team of Healthcare Assistants and Donor Care Supervisors, ensuring they are motivated, well-trained, and capable of delivering excellent care. You will foster a positive working environment, provide ongoing training and support, and address any team issues or concerns that arise. You will use your clinical expertise and judgment to assess whether potential donors meet the necessary health and safety criteria for blood donation, including reviewing medical history and current health status. This role requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, and a deep understanding of regulatory requirements. You’ll be responsible for ensuring the team delivers exceptional care while making critical decisions that affect donor safety and the quality of the service.
Responsibilities
* Take clinical responsibility for ensuring the safe assessment and blood donation of donors.
* Be accountable for the safe running of a blood donation session.
* Ensure an excellent donor experience.
* Maintain the competency and skills of your team and yourself.
* Adapt communication styles for difficult conversations.
* Maintain your professional development to drive improvements in practice.
Working hours
On a shift basis, this part-time, permanent role is up to 58 hours per fortnight, typically 6 or 7 shifts. Early shifts 08:30–17:30; late shifts 11:25–20:15 (8.3 hour days). Weekend and bank holidays may be required. You will not work more than five days a week.
About you
Experience and knowledge
* Demonstrate leadership qualities and understand principles of best practice to deliver high-quality care.
* Experience of supporting the professional development of others.
* Understanding of clinical audit and research.
* Experience of supporting improvements and changes in practice.
* Awareness of patient safety initiatives and risk management.
* Experience with Information Technology such as hand-held devices and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Qualifications and training
* Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (Adult) and continuous maintenance.
* Full and valid UK driving licence with up to 6 points (where applicable).
