POSITION: Full Time Fixed Term Post from April 2026 for 1 year with possible extension. Based at Visit Belfast Welcome Centre Closing Date: 12 noon, Monday 9th March 2026 Full Time DEPARTMENT: Visitor Servicing REPORTING TO: Retail Supervisors and The Head of Visitor Services Operations or in their absence the Duty Manager/Supervisor on Duty. SALARY: The salary scale for this post is £24,570 to £26,570 with candidates usually starting at the bottom of the scale. Reporting to the Retail Supervisors and The Head Visitor Services Operations or Duty Manager/Supervisors at Visit Belfast Welcome Centre (VBWC), Post-holders will provide an efficient and comprehensive service to our customers and work as part of a team to drive both personal and business targets. We are looking for candidates who strives to continuously learn and develop their service skills, product knowledge and behaviours in our ever-changing retail and visitor environment. Successful candidates will take an active role in sharing ideas and identifying opportunities to enhance the shop environment and improve the visitor experience. Post holders will be based mainly in the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre or occasionally at Cruise Welcome Hub (Airport Road West). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure all shop deliveries are checked in, recorded on the relevant stock management system, and stored. Assist in the maintenance of standards on the shop floor and for all displays and merchandise. Keep stock and display areas, clean and presentable at all times. Working with the Retail Supervisor Display and Merchandising to create window displays and in shop displays. Replenish stock levels when needed, making sure the full range of stock is on the shop floor where possible. Ensuring you floor walk to be able to assist customers with enquiries or to upsell and give information of the providence of our products. Ensuring that the Retail Supervisors are kept up to date regarding stock order levels. Ensure shop standards in terms of look and feel are adhered to and the shop is prepared for the next trading day Working as part of a team to achieve daily sales targets. The daily/weekly maintenance of information files and records of retail daily activity against sales targets and reporting same to visitor information teams. Support the team in the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with Visit Belfasts partners, sponsors, and the industry as appropriate. The provision of any other form of service with which the post holder may be charged in accordance with Visit Belfasts general activities. To receive and process cash and card transactions, completing end of day procedures on the POS when required and reporting to the retail supervisors and Visitor Services Operations Manager daily sales. PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL Visit Belfast operates a system of performance appraisal set against a set of pre-determined targets and objectives. HOURS OF WORK Hours will vary according to the cruise schedule and will be on a rota basis. Evenings, weekends, bank & public holiday work will be a normal part of duties. Normally 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday occasional hours outside of this may be required during busy periods. UNIFORM Uniforms will be provided along with the Visit Belfast uniform policy. The uniform will consist of a branded polo shirt and fleece which should be worn along with plain black trousers or jeans and shoes. SMOKING POLICY Visit Belfast operates a no smoking policy! Smoking is strictly prohibited within Visit Belfast sites. Personnel Specification Essential Criteria Desirable Criteria Qualifications A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above, inc. English and Maths OR One years experience in a retail environment. Third level qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline (Travel/Tourism, Leisure/Hospitality, Business or Languages etc.) One years additional experience in a retail environment. Relevant Experience One years customer service work experience, in a retail environment. Proven and demonstrable experience in sales and selling skills within a retail environment. Cash handling / till handling experience Experience in use of software packages. Experience of working in the visitor or hospitality focused environment or similar. Experience in end of day cashing up procedures. Experience in the use of uploading orders onto a retail system Special Aptitudes Excellent written and spoken English. Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work on own initiative, energy, enthusiasm, and team player. Excellent customer care skills Smart appearance Excellent and demonstrable working knowledge and experience in working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (please specify clearly on your application form). Circumstances Available to work outside normal hours, as required. Good flexibility and availability Access to a form of transport to allow you to meet the rota needs of this post.
