Role Description
Food Safety Manager, Bradford. A brand new permanent opportunity to join the operations team at Bradford, which is the site is the largest UK soft drinks production site.

Due to the scale and complexity of the Bradford site, this role requires strong Operations/Technical Leadership. The role is deputy to the Site Technical Manager and supports the leadership of the group and site technical strategy outputs.
Responsibilities
* Accountability for defining, direct management and continuous improvement of all governance requirements concerning Food Safety on the site.
* Ensure strong, proactive relationships within and between site technical and operations teams.
* Accountable for technical performance of compliance requirements, HACCP implementation, technical strategy outputs, thermal controls, audit management and site governance for customer requirements.
* Support site leadership in delivering quality, legal, food safety, brand integrity and culture compliance.
* Lead all audit requirements to drive a robust review programme for compliance, hygiene and GMP monitoring.
* Lead 3rd party and EHO audit requirements, including preparation, facilitation, conclusion, review and corrective action follow-ups.
* Ensure site risk assessments cover BRC standards, allergens, claims and adulteration requirements.
* Drive continuous improvement in food safety standards, develop short-, medium- and long-term strategies, and lead improvement teams in Complaints, Compliance and HACCP fundamentals.
* Collaborate with Quality Systems Manager to maintain and improve the site quality system in line with central policies, customer requirements and BRC/ISO standards.
* Facilitate site operating practices and procedures within the HACCP Management System with audits, reviews and verification covering pre-requests and CCPs.
Principal Responsibilities
* Lead quality management systems and internal/third-party audits, including HACCP, food defence and integrity, CCP process controls for pasteurisation/sterilisation.
* Define process validation parameters for pasteurisation, establish operating safe working practices, and set escalation protocols for deviations based on HACCP principles.
* Ensure HACCP risk assessments are robust and effectively managed to produce right-first-time products.
* Define external testing requirements and verification regimes for pack claims.
* Collaborate with site QA and NPD teams to monitor and improve product attributes, manage end-to-end process and product specifications, and promote right-first-time operating standards.
* Manage calibration systems to ensure equipment used in safety and quality monitoring is traceable to national standards; coordinate with OEMs and engineering for calibration/verification activities.
* Conduct audits including CIP, GMP, internal audits and finished product cleaning to meet microbiological performance, allergen removal and site KPIs.
* Lead a developing team, overseeing training and workload planning.
* Share best practices with the Group Technical function and other sites to uphold Princes Group standards.
* Define, monitor and review testing regimes for authenticity, microbiological and chemical performance across raw materials, WIP and finished products, supporting claims and customer requirements within budget.
Additional Sector Requirements
* Lead site laboratory teams for microbiological, chemical and adulteration monitoring; oversee CLAS accreditation requirements.
* Lead and manage microbiologist teams to maintain high standards and drive continuous improvement.
* Review HACCP validation and operating parameters for all food safety aspects.
* Ensure systems cover authenticity requirements for adulteration governance, including testing schedules and supplier management.
* Define calibration and process validation for key pasteurisation equipment; monitor cleaning and CIP performance for compliance with food safety and safety legislation.
* Lead site analysts to perform laboratory duties within CLAS accreditation; oversee third-party audits of laboratory facilities and team.
* Manage training and development of site analysts and lead investigations including out-of-spec occasions, including out-of-hours work.
Role Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Experience of developing and managing high-performing teams.
* Degree or Postgraduate qualification in science or food technology (or equivalent experience).
* Experience managing customer technical relationships within a UK retail-facing role.
* Technical expertise across a wide range of food manufacturing operations.
* Experience in technical management at a senior level across different areas of food supply businesses (Site / Supplier / Customer).
* Comprehensive knowledge of UK retailer codes of practice and how to implement these within food manufacturing and supply businesses.
* Level 4 HACCP; Lead auditor qualifications; Project management skills.
* Experience with 3rd party audits such as BRC, IFS, Red Tractor, Soil Association; familiarity with claims (e.g., Organics, Gluten Free).
