Job Summary
The Torbay South and West Devon Specialist Team for Early Psychosis (STEP) is looking for a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist for Psychosis. This post covers the whole locality area of Torbay, South and West Devon. The principal purpose is to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of people in Devon, providing CBT interventions for people with first‑episode psychosis and At Risk Mental State (ARMS). The post holder will act as lead specialist, providing professional clinical supervision to less experienced staff, trainees and students, and contributing to the leadership of the local service.
Responsibilities
* Provide CBT for Psychosis to a caseload of up to 12 clients per WTE according to evidence base.
* Supervise and train team colleagues in CBT‑informed practice and support STEP colleagues to achieve CBT qualifications.
* Maintain standards of practice per professional bodies (NMC, HCPC, BPS, UKCP, BABCP) and keep up to date with NHS guidelines.
* Identify, discuss and review clear professional objectives with team managers as part of PD and CPG.
* Attend clinical/managerial supervision regularly as agreed with Manager.
* Maintain specialist knowledge of latest theories and service models.
* Attend relevant conferences and workshops aligned with professional objectives.
Qualifications – Experience
* Experience working in mental health services.
* Skills applying CBT and CBTp theory to individuals, couples, families, groups and organisations.
* Advanced assessment, formulation, engagement and interventions skills.
* Knowledge of Early Intervention in Psychosis Services and national targets.
* Experience with severe and complex mental health problems where CBT is a key component.
Qualifications – Desirable Experience
* Early Intervention in psychosis service CBT therapist experience.
* Teaching and training CBT and CBTp.
* Running CBT groups and low‑intensity interventions.
* Supervising staff in CBT use.
* Clinical audit experience within a service.
Qualifications – Education & Training
* Registered qualification at graduate diploma level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy or within a psychological profession.
* Specialist training in CBT.
Qualifications – Desirable Education & Training
* Training for provision of CBT supervision.
Professional Registration
* Registered and accredited with an appropriate recognised UK professional body (BABCP) or nearing completion.
Desirable – CBT Supervision Accreditation
* Accredited in CBT supervision.
Benefits & Working Patterns
Band 7 – £47,810 to £54,710 a year. Permanent contract. Full‑time, part‑time, flexible working. Location: Collett Way, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ12 4PH.
