Overview
We have a vacancy for a full-time substantive (10 PA) Medical Oncology Consultant to join the Oncology team at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust. Applicants who are seeking to work part-time or flexibly will also be considered. The post represents a career opportunity for a clinician with imagination, drive and commitment to work with the other Oncology Consultants and the wider cancer multidisciplinary team. A financial incentive package may be available for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
* Work in the two tumour sites of upper GI and colorectal cancer, in partnership with the current UHMB oncology team and visiting Clinical Oncologists from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
* Share acute oncology duties with the rest of the consultant team and contribute to the acute oncology inpatient service in UHMB, working alongside the established acute oncology ANP team. There is currently no on-call commitment associated with the post.
* Contribute to research and act as Principal Investigator for trials in areas of interest, with opportunity to be involved in research and to participate in trials.
* Be a pan-UHMB appointment and work across at least two of the three UHMB sites (Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital).
Site and Service Context
The Trust is a recognised Cancer Unit, providing systemic therapy for all common tumour sites. SACT is given at all three sites. Acute oncology and inpatient services are located at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital. UHMB operates from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, with additional community facilities including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI offer a range of General Hospital services including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. WGH provides General Hospital services plus an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions. A range of planned care, diagnostics, therapies, day-case and inpatient surgery is provided across the three main hospitals, with additional local outreach services and diagnostics from community facilities.
