We are seeking a full-time Principal Systems Engineer in Hatfield. Could you be the right fit?
Position Overview
* Participate in the development, adaptation, and delivery of SSI and SMARTLOCK systems and processes (SML 400, MooN, Smart Gateway, SmartIO, Support System, Test Environment, Automation Testing) for signalling systems in the UK and Ireland.
* Contribute to the development and improvement of tools and processes across the project lifecycle, including requirements capture, planning, specifications, design, implementation, testing, and deployment. Lead reviews and suggest improvements to ensure tools remain fit for purpose.
Responsibilities
* Ensure delivery of standard objectives and optimal system solutions on assigned projects.
* Focus on reliability, maintainability, and safety principles in project delivery.
* Ensure projects conform to system standards, architecture, client standards, and company procedures.
* Develop new system solutions.
* Support safety assurance activities, including developing Safety Cases for applications.
* Collaborate with the Systems Engineering Manager to establish best practices.
* Contribute systems input to tenders.
* Participate in system integration, project deliverables, and validation of technical documentation.
* Provide technical leadership to Systems Engineers.
* Support field operations by providing second-line product support.
* Attend business and technical briefings.
* Possess computer and software literacy, with scripting or software development experience.
* Liaise effectively with stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and project teams.
* Demonstrate organizational skills, decision-making, and technical report writing abilities.
Qualifications
* MSc or BSc in an engineering-related field, preferably control systems, electrical engineering, or systems engineering.
Experience
* Knowledge of client and system standards and legislation.
* Understanding of UK railway safety approval processes.
* Familiarity with systems engineering principles and relevant tools, with a willingness to develop further skills.
Skills & Certifications
* Commercial and financial awareness.
* Experience with Virtualisation and Cloud Technologies.
* Microsoft Windows System and Domain Administration.
Additional Qualifications & Experience
* PTS (Personal Track Safety)
* Membership of an engineering institute.
* IRSE Systems or Engineering Managers licence.
* Experience working in a railway systems engineering environment.
