We’re recruiting for an experienced Depot-based Day Maintainer to carry out planned and corrective maintenance on the Mobile Maintenance Train (MMT) fleet, based at Basingstoke.
This is a day-based, depot-led maintenance role working on one of the most technically advanced fleets in the UK rail industry.
The MMTs are self-propelled workshop trains designed to perform track and infrastructure maintenance within a safe, enclosed environment — each unit includes hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems as well as onboard computerised diagnostics.
You’ll be part of the engineering team that ensures these specialist machines are kept in peak condition, maximising fleet availability, reliability, and safety.
It’s a hands-on role ideal for engineers who want to work on large-scale rail machinery with strong engineering variety but prefer day shifts and local stability over constant travel.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on the Mobile Maintenance Train fleet
Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults
Work with Vehicle Maintenance Instructions and use Network Rail’s Fleet Asset Management System to record work
Maintain, test, and calibrate onboard systems including power generation, lighting, and air systems
Conduct audits of onboard tools, spares, and equipment
Maintain a clean and organised work environment in line with 5S principles
Operate MMTs for testing and maintenance purposes when required
Ensure all work is completed safely and to the required standards
