Learning Support Assistant – Newcastle

Are you looking to build a career in education, youth justice, or mental health? A specialist SEMH school in Newcastle is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support secondary-aged students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a nurturing, trauma-informed environment. You will support young people who may be neurodivergent or affected by ADHD, attachment needs, or adverse childhood experiences, helping them re-engage with education and build positive relationships.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
Provide consistent 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
Help students regulate emotions and develop coping strategies
Use restorative approaches to promote positive behaviour
Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals
Contribute to a safe and structured learning environment
Ideal Candidates
We welcome applications from:
Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Youth Work, Social Sciences, or related fields
Individuals with a strong interest in mental health, neurodiversity, and restorative practice
Calm, resilient communicators who prioritise relationship-building
Those with experience supporting children or young people, although full training is provided
This role is particularly well suited to those considering careers in educational psychology, social work, youth justice, counselling, or teaching.
