Freelance Site Engineer – Major Pipeline Project (Carlisle)
Location: Carlisle (base)
Duration: 18 months (starting January)
Engagement: Freelance (permanent considered)
⏰ Hours: 7am – 7pm, Monday to Friday (some weekend work required)
A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking a Freelance Site Engineer to join the team delivering a major 25km pipeline installation project in the Carlisle area. This £16 million scheme will run for approximately 18 months and offers an excellent long-term contract opportunity on a significant infrastructure project.
Role Overview
The Site Engineer will be responsible for all setting out and site surveying duties along the 25km route. You’ll work predominantly on site, ensuring accuracy and quality in the works, and will also assist with day-to-day coordination and supervision as required.
Key Responsibilities
Setting out and surveying for the new pipeline works
Working with design information to ensure accuracy on site
Monitoring progress and maintaining records of work completed
Supporting the Site Manager and wider team to deliver on programme and quality targets
Upholding the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance
Requirements
Proven experience as a Site Engineer on civil engineering or utilities projects (pipeline or water experience advantageous)
Strong understanding of setting out and site control procedures
CSCS card required; SSSTS or similar certification desirable
Good communication and organisational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
