Overview
We are currently recruiting for a Maintenance Manager to join the Estates Department of this high-profile University campus.
The campus is the largest single-site university in the UK, spanning 440 acres, located near a market town and close to motorway links. The university's facilities have been voted the best in the UK for the last five years.
The estate features a diverse range of academic, residential, commercial, and sports facilities, covering 362,000 sq. m, with 154 buildings and an adjoining 85 acres of agricultural land with planning permission for future development.
The Maintenance Manager will oversee the delivery of hard FM services across this large and complex estate. This is an excellent opportunity for a proven leader to manage a multi-trade maintenance team of 60 staff, ensuring the smooth operation of various buildings, including large teaching schools, sports facilities, research centers, student accommodation, and commercial spaces.
The role offers a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and opportunities for professional development. It is a permanent position with a salary range of £46,735 – £55,755 per annum, working 37 hours per week. Responsibilities
* Reporting to the Director of Maintenance, Engineering and Sustainability, you will lead and manage a team of 60 staff responsible for urgent, reactive, and compliance maintenance for the university estate, with a budget of approximately £5m.
* Oversee daily operations of the response teams, ensuring effective planning and delivery of maintenance, asset management, H&S, and statutory compliance works.
* Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary in-house team, maintaining high standards of reactive and planned maintenance.
* Oversee M&E services, ensuring compliance with safety, legal, and regulatory standards.
* Manage third-party contractors for cost-effective and efficient service delivery.
* Promote a proactive maintenance approach, solving complex issues in a fast-paced environment.
* Support the university’s sustainability and estate strategies to enhance building performance and efficiency.
Skills & Attributes
* Relevant qualification in Engineering, Facilities Management, or Building Services.
* NEBOSH General Certificate or willingness to obtain it.
* Extensive experience in hard FM services within large, complex environments.
* Proven leadership of large, multi-trade maintenance teams.
* Strong technical background in mechanical & electrical (M&E) services.
* Experience in contract management of third-party service providers.
* Understanding of legal, compliance, and safety regulations in estate management.
* Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
* Professional demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities within conflicting deadlines.
* Willingness to undertake further training as needed.
