The Barbour story began in 1894 in South Shields in the North East of England. Founder John Barbour began supplying oilskins and other garments to protect the growing community of sailors, fishermen and dockers. Still family owned and now fifth generation, Barbour HQ remains in South Shields. Under the leadership of Chairman Dame Margaret Barbour, Barbour has grown into a lifestyle brand sold in over 55 countries worldwide including Europe, the US and Asia offering a wardrobe of stylish functional clothing, footwear and accessories inspired by the unique values of the British countryside. The iconic Barbour Bedale and Barbour Beaufort wax jackets continue to be made by hand in the factory in South Shields. In 2020, Barbour launched Wax for Life, an overarching name for all of Barbour’s wax services designed to encourage customers to extend the life of their wax garments. Wax for Life includes re-waxing and repairs (first introduced in 1921) and Barbour Re-Loved an upcycling circularity initiative. Each year over 70,000 wax garments are sent back to Barbour globally to be repaired, rewaxed or altered.

Position Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Global Social Media & Community Manager to join our Digital Marketing team. This role will be responsible for global social media strategy, governance, management and performance across Barbour and Barbour International’s channels. This role owns the end-to-end organic social media approach, from strategy through to execution, community engagement and optimisation. Acting as the global authority on social media, you will ensure all activity reflects Barbour’s brand values, tone of voice and visual identity, while driving meaningful engagement and supporting brand and commercial objectives. Working closely with the Global Digital Campaigns & Content Managers, you will deliver global campaigns through a social-first lens, optimising content for each platform, managing agencies and community engagement, and supporting real-time social activity when required.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

* Lead and execute the global organic social media strategy for Barbour and Barbour International, defining platform roles, tone of voice, content principles and governance.
* Act as global decision-maker on social priorities, formats and platform investment, ensuring brand consistency across all markets.
* Own the global social content calendar, workflows and approval processes, overseeing daily publishing and live social activity.
* Lead social-first campaign planning with Global Campaign Managers, including events, collaborations and out-of-hours coverage.
* Own creation and delivery of social-first content, ensuring platform-native execution, optimisation and cultural relevance.
* Set the visual direction for organic social, evolving brand guidelines to drive social performance.
* Design and build social assets in Figma and edit video content using Premiere Pro / CapCut.
* Write and adapt copy across both brands, ensuring consistent tone, messaging and brand personality.
* Manage global community strategy, tone, escalation workflows and Community Management agency.
* Partner with PR, Communications and Customer Service on crisis response and customer insight.
* Build and maintain relationships with selected influencers and talent.
* Support and oversee local market social activity, ensuring alignment with global guidelines.
* Collaborate closely with Ecommerce to confirm product availability ahead of content rollout.
* Partner with external agencies, freelancers and TikTok agency to align delivery, tone and timing.
* Maintain social tools including Brandwatch and StoryStream, integrating UGC and tracking performance.
* Work with Performance Analyst to monitor organic social and drive-to-site metrics.
* Support on-set content production and key brand events where required.
* Act as internal expert on emerging platforms, trends and algorithm changes, identifying innovation opportunities.


Skills and Experience

* Experience in brand or ecommerce social media management
* Degree level qualification ideally in Marketing or Communications
* Excellent copywriting skills, with a focus on copywriting for social media
* Social scheduling/listening tool user
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to analyse data and conclude for reports.
* Initiative based in solving problems
* High attention to detail in copy and visuals
* Confident working with internal and external stakeholders.
* Be prepared to out-side working hours on ad-hoc occasions (press events, brand campaign shoots)


Desirable

* Experience or exposure to fashion / clothing brands
* Active influencer or blogging experience
* TikTok channel management
* Knowledge of using UGC curation tool (Storystream or equivalent)
* Experience in Meta Commerce Manager
