Job Description Summary
At GE Aerospace, we design, manufacture, repair, and overhaul a range of propeller systems for military and civil applications from our state-of-the-art facility in Gloucestershire, UK. The successful applicant will lead our New Product Introduction (NPI) team, translating design intent into manufacturable products, facilities, and processes, supporting GE Aviation's mission for electrified, sustainable aviation.
You will prioritize the production system, champion design for manufacture, develop lean processes, leverage automation, and work cross-functionally to resolve manufacturing issues.
Working ahead of the development team, you will focus on manufacturing process design, facility footprint, technology selection, and quality planning, aiming to demonstrate manufacturing proof of concept via a capable, reliable, and efficient pilot line.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Collaborate directly with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve manufacturing issues using data and logical analysis.
* Coordinate with support functions to manage the Manufacturing Engineering agenda effectively.
* Create manufacturing plans, including cell layouts, value stream maps, timing charts, and process flow diagrams to optimize ROI, reduce costs, and meet process capability and cycle time targets.
* Work with product manufacturing engineering and materials & process engineers to promote failure mode avoidance and develop industrialization strategies.
* Influence design processes to ensure manufacturing considerations are integrated during product development, emphasizing design for manufacture and assembly.
* Lead APQP and PPAP processes, including the creation of PFMEAs, control plans, and facility requirements for inline process control.
* Coordinate with suppliers and sourcing teams for equipment and tooling acquisition, installation, and commissioning.
* Develop a pilot line to blueprint a scalable facility demonstrating new technology, automation, and lean manufacturing principles.
* Support value engineering to inform make/buy decisions on core parts and components.
* Utilize virtual manufacturing tools to simulate workflows and support investment decisions.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, with experience in technical project management within Manufacturing Engineering.
* Experience with NPI processes, including facility design, commissioning, and automation in industries like automotive or logistics.
* Knowledge of problem-solving methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, etc.) and APQP standards.
* Proven experience in implementing APQP in product development and manufacturing facility design.
* Experience managing subcontractors and vendors.
* Understanding of health & safety and construction regulations.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and influence across organizational levels using data-driven approaches.
Desired Characteristics
* Knowledge of robotics, automation, and controls installation and commissioning.
* Expertise in high-volume composite manufacturing, CNC machining, hydraulic systems, or NDT.
* Experience with CAD software such as 3D Catia or AutoCAD.
* Experience in regulated industries, preferably aviation.
* Knowledge of 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and virtual manufacturing tools.
* Familiarity with condition-based monitoring and real-time data integration in manufacturing.
* Understanding of NPV and FV calculations.
