Our client, a leading organisation within the maritime defence sector, is currently seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join their dynamic team. This permanent role is based at the state-of-the-art Haslar Marine Technology Park, where pioneering technology and facilities support a range of marine solutions including surface ships, submarines, and renewable energy devices.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with the engineering program lead and project management community to task and control work conducted by the technical team
Manage technical tasking within agreed quality, timescale, and budget parameters
Develop capabilities within your areas of expertise and mentor others in the wider engineering and technical communities
Encourage increased collaboration across groups and wider technical teams
Work with other functions, such as Safety Engineering, to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, company and project-specific processes
Identify and develop joint technical strategies with partner organisations, supporting overall Business Development and Sales strategy
Ensure consistent application of governance across technical programs, acting as a peer/independent reviewer where suitable
Job Requirements:
Proficient in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of structures and systems
Experience with non-ferrous metals and composite materials, design, and manufacturing
Competency in FEA software, ideally Abaqus
Proficient in CAD software
Experience in leading multidisciplinary project teams
Experience in subsurface and defence platform design is advantageous but not essential
