Reception Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support) Contract Type: Full-time Temporary Work Start Date: ASAP (from 25/03/2026) Location: Barnet, London, UK (Finchley) Salary: £95 – £100 per day Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training such a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable. About the Role Teach Now are recruiting on behalf of a happy and successful primary school in Finchley, Barnet, which has proudly served the local Catholic community for over 50 years. The school is well known for its warm, friendly atmosphere and strong commitment to supporting every child in its care. The school is seeking a Reception Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with autism who has recently joined the school. The pupil is currently working at nursery level and requires a patient, nurturing approach to learning and development. This role will involve supporting the child with basic early learning skills, helping them develop focus, communication and engagement within the classroom environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping the pupil feel safe, supported and ready to learn. Key Responsibilities • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with autism in Reception • Use a nurturing and patient approach to support early development and engagement • Support the pupil with basic learning skills and classroom routines • Help the child develop focus, communication and confidence • Work closely with the class teacher and SEN team to support the child’s learning plan • Help maintain a calm and positive learning environment Requirements To be eligible for this role, applicants should have: • Experience working with young children or pupils with additional needs • A calm, nurturing and patient personality • Confidence supporting children working at early developmental levels • Strong communication and teamwork skills • A genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs • Experience in Nursery, Early Years or SEN support would be particularly beneficial. The pupil is Romanian, so a candidate with a similar language or cultural background would be a bonus, although this is not essential.
