The Nursery Nurse will be working as Key Worker for the daily needs of children between the ages of birth and five years within the Nursery setting.

Purpose of Post

* To provide an interesting and stimulating environment for the children in a variety of ways.
* To work under the Room Supervisor to achieve the aims and objectives of the Nursery.
* To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in Edenhurst Nursery.
* To give support to other personnel within Edenhurst Nursery.
* To implement the daily routine in the Nursery.

Key Areas

* To act as Key Worker to a group of children.
* To observe, evaluate a child's progression and plan and deliver their next steps.
* Work with children.
* Team work – supporting colleagues in meeting every child's needs.
* Safeguarding – observing and reporting any issues.
* Liaise with parents, staff and other professionals.

Responsible to:

* Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager / Room Supervisor

Duties and Responsibilities

* Punctual and reliable.
* Ensure all children and parents are met with a warm welcome.
* Formulate and operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children attending the Nursery in conjunction with the Room Supervisor on a weekly basis.
* Adjust activities according the individual's needs.
* Prepare the children's development files in your group and institute reviews for parents, in conjunction with the Manager.
* Work alongside parents of special needs children and with outside agencies as appropriate.
* Identify the needs of special needs children and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate and liaise with the settings SENCO.
* Support all staff and contribute to the team. Follow instructions of the Supervisor.
* Liaise with and support parents and other family members.
* Periodically, attend staff meeting and training events outside working hours.
* Undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery, for example, serving snacks and meals, occasionally loading and emptying the dishwasher, room as part of a daily routine.
* Maintain high standards of personal hygiene particularly hand washing.
* Variable shifts. Needs to be flexible within working practices within the setting and be prepared to work where needed.
* Recording accidents/incidents in the books provided thoroughly and accurately.
* Ensure each child is collected by someone known to the setting using photographs and passwords when necessary.
* To respect the confidentiality of information received at all times.
* To uphold the reputation of the Nursery at all times.
* To develop your role within the team.
* To engage in reflective practice, use constructive feedback to continually improve.
* To participate in the training programme of a wide variety of students (ie. Placements) by giving guidance and support and being an outstanding role model.
* Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the philosophy behind the project is fulfilled.

Qualifies and Experience Required

Person Specification

* Good organisation, record keeping and planning skills.
* Excellent communicator with children, parents and colleagues.
* Patient and approachable.
* Inclusive.
* Basic Food Hygiene certificate (desirable)
* Paediatric First Aid (desirable)
* Safeguarding Children Level 1 (essential)

Specialist Knowledge

* Knowledge of 'Early Years Foundation Stage' and 'Birth to Three Matters'
* Knowledge of Health and Safety standards

Hours, Holidays and Salary

* Full-time position: 8.5 hours per day (1 hour break included in working hours), 5 days per week (Monday to Friday).
* The Nursery is open 51 weeks per year.
* Shift basis as organised with the Nursery Manager, between 7:30am and 6:00pm.
* 20 days holiday per annum (September 1st to August 31st), plus all Bank Holidays and additional paid leave during Christmas shutdown. Extra holiday dependent on length of service.
* Salary up to £12.21 per hour
