About us

About UCL Institute of Education

Founded in 1902, UCL Institute of Education has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just, and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The Department of Learning and Leadership (DLL) is a large specialist research and teaching department of approximately 110 academic staff. The department is a major world leader in the following subject areas: Early Years and Primary Education, Educational Leadership, Education Policy, and Initial Teacher Education (ITE). We value innovative research, teaching and enterprise in all these areas and combine the very best of research innovation and evidence-based teaching, with a strong commitment to translating our work into policy and practice.

About the role

The main purpose of the post is to contribute to the full range of activities that enable the ESRC Education Research Programme (ERP) to engage with a range of stakeholders over the project's lifetime. Activities include: online and face to face events, a web presence, internal and external communications, a weekly newsletter, roundtables, policy briefs and social media content and other activities used to build and maintain stakeholder engagement.

The role involves working closely with members of the UCL research team and the nine research projects, based in other universities, that are an integral part of the Programme. You will need experience of engaging policy and practitioner audiences through events of different kinds, and tailoring communication strategies and formats to meet a range of purposes. You will also provide general administrative support to the ESRC Education Research Programme Director.

This post is available at 0.6 FTE (21.9 hours per week) until 5th September 2026.

About you

You will have a degree, professional qualification or equivalent experience in a research and policy environment and experience of working with researchers to translate research findings into a range of accessible formats for policy and practitioner audiences.

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to plan, prioritise and manage a varied workload and a calendar of events, both online and in-person. You will have the capacity to tailor communications and events planning to take into account different audiences and a range of purposes. The post requires a flexible skill set.

Awareness of how the research cycle interacts with the policy environment and an enthusiasm for maximising dialogue between key stakeholders in that light would be an advantage.

Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.

It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.
