Overview

Senior Physicist in Nuclear Medicine role within the Nuclear Medicine Department at NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group. Join a team of five physicists providing scientific support to PET-CT and SPECT-CT systems in a modern hospital that also manages physics support for four outside hospitals. The department leads research in targeted radionuclide therapy and personalised dosimetry, and participates in STP training and development for healthcare scientists. Liverpool is one of Europe's liveliest and most exciting cities, with culture and character rooted in its history.


Responsibilities

* Assist the Chief Physicist and deputies in delivering a nuclear medicine physics service to the Trust's Nuclear Medicine Department.
* On joining the HCPC State Register, become part of the group of physicists carrying out quality control and other work at peripheral hospitals undertaking radionuclide imaging studies.
* Support imaging services for PET-CT and SPECT-CT systems; contribute to image interpretation and analysis; participate in quality assurance of imaging detectors; and assist with the preparation and disposal of radioactive waste.
* Collaborate with Radiopharmacy and Radiation Protection colleagues; contribute to measurements related to dual-energy X-ray bone mineral densitometry where applicable.
* Undertake teaching commitments as required; contribute to the MSc in Medical Imaging as part of the Health Care Science Training (STP) program.
* Pursue research activities as required; publish in scientific journals and present results at meetings and conferences.
* Support Radiation Protection requirements for patients, staff and the public in line with Trust policies; participate in local rules documentation and emergency planning as appropriate (NAIR scheme, IRR/IRMER compliance).
* Develop or expand diagnostic radiology knowledge and liaise with the Radiology department; plan own workload and teaching commitments for trainees where necessary.
* Strive to attain RWA and RPA certification where possible.
* Contribute to other activities that maintain professional standards appropriate to the grade.


Qualifications

* Completed or about to complete the STP training programme and have achieved HCPC State Registration. If still in training, appointment at a lower grade may be considered.

The peripheral hospitals involved are Alder Hey Children's Hospital, Fazakerley Hospital, Whiston Hospital and Warrington Hospital.
