About the role
Your focus as Sous Chef will be to support the head chef in leading a culinary team that provides a nutritionally balanced, comprehensive, and high‑quality culinary service to residents while staying within budget.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare modified diets in accordance with IDDSI guidance, ensuring they look appealing, are well balanced, and meet resident needs.
- Supervise and direct the work of culinary staff, providing instruction and demonstration for unqualified staff on simple food preparation activities.
- Apply safe food handling principles to ensure all kitchen work meets the highest hygiene standards.
- Support all culinary team members in fully understanding and applying the Avery Food safety management system.
Role requirements
- A DBS Disclosure check (cost covered by Avery Healthcare).
- Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.

Ideal candidate qualifications
- Hold a relevant catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, NVQ, or equivalent).
- Have a minimum of 1 year of catering experience.
- Demonstrate compassion and commitment to delivering high‑quality culinary services to residents.
- Be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities on short notice.
