The successful candidate is required to provide support in the application of closed loop hydraulic control systems for mechanical testing, including associated servicing, commissioning, and training for our customers. The position requires a sound technical background over a broad range of disciplines, self-motivation, an ability to work unsupervised and good organisational ability. Experience in the field of destructive and non-destructive testing is valuable.
As a service support engineer you will be primarily field based, across the UK, Ireland, and Iceland, however there is also a requirement to work from our HQ (in Worcester) at times. Therefore, an ability to manage time effectively and work unsupervised are essential skills for this position.
You will be working within a variety of appealing manufacturing sectors including the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries, amongst others.
Role & Responsibilities
1. To attend our customers site and complete agreed tasks to ensure equipment is functional and available when required. (Repair – Report – Follow Up)
2. To ensure that the business is successful by effectively maintaining existing contracts
3. To actively identify future contracts, both whilst working on existing projects and by contacting and visiting prospective new customers and passing these opportunities to technical backup staff
4. To assist other engineers with training and consultancy projects
5. Comply with the requirements of the various Quality and Health & Safety Systems in place
Key competencies and skills
Essential:
6. Able to work unsupervised
7. Understanding of closed-loop control systems
8. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to perform thorough fault finding
9. Good written communication and report writing skill
10. A sound knowledge of the theory and application of transducers
11. An understanding of the basic principles of hydraulics
12. Able to recognise and pursue sales opportunities when on site
13. Completion of a recognised apprenticeship scheme, HNC (mechatronics/electronics preferred), or higher
Desired:
14. A sound knowledge of electrical/electronic systems, from first principles, such as to permit the design and build of circuits
15. An understanding of engineering drawings
16. An understanding of the basic principles of programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
17. Great attention to detail
18. Experience in workshop practices, including fitting and machine tools
19. Experience in non-destructive testing
