Risk Manager (Travel)

Salary - £55,000 to £65,000 per annum, dependent on experience.

Location: Folkestone Hybrid.

By ensuring risks are well understood, appropriately managed and aligned to our strategic ambitions, the Risk Manager plays a key role in enabling sustainable growth and delivering exceptional customer experiences.


Role Responsibility

* Act as a trusted risk business partner and advisor to the Travel business, supporting them to take and manage risks in line with their appetite.
* Ensure all leadership levels understand how risks are managed at Saga and what is expected of them.
* Support the annual refresh of the Risk Strategy and plan for Saga Travel.
* Review and test Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs), overseeing quality of control testing and providing challenge and guidance where appropriate.
* Assist the Travel Executive team in reporting on the effectiveness of material controls under UK Corporate Governance Code Provision 29.
* Facilitate the cascade of Group risk appetite statements within Travel, tailoring them to achieve strategic objectives and monitor risk management through reporting.
* Oversee Travel incidents, ensuring root causes are understood and actions prevent recurrence.
* Develop and maintain risk management policies, procedures and guidelines consistent with Group standards.
* Support management’s understanding of the risk system through training, discussion, online tools and guidance documents.
* Prepare and present concise risk reports and opinions to senior management and stakeholders, highlighting key exposures, trends and mitigation activities.
* Participate in executive risk committees and other governance forums as required.
* Provide robust challenge and insights on risk exposures, emerging trends, control effectiveness and lessons from material incidents.
* Develop and deliver the 2nd Line assurance plan, completing risk‑based assurance over Travel’s control environment and recommending pragmatic, commercial risk mitigation.


Ideal Candidate

Strong understanding of both the travel industry and risk management frameworks, with confidence in identifying, assessing, documenting risks and controls, undertaking control testing and delivering clear, insightful risk reporting that supports decision‑making. Experience in stakeholder management and business partnering at all levels is essential. Candidates with less risk experience but strong influencing and communication skills will also be considered with up‑skilling opportunities.


Qualifications

* Lead International Safety Management (ISM) auditor qualification, or experience working towards this, is desirable.
* Strong understanding of maritime regulation and knowledge of Package Travel Regulations (PTRs) is desirable.
* Qualified risk professional or equivalent practical experience in a risk management role.
* Experience of third‑party risk management and oversight.
* Knowledge of risk, compliance and quality assurance within travel or similarly regulated industries.
* Proven track record of working effectively with senior stakeholders on risk and control frameworks.
* Ability to operate successfully in a complex, matrixed organisation, balancing multiple priorities.
* Strong influencing skills, with the confidence to provide independent challenge where required.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, translating risk into meaningful business insight.
* Sound judgement, with the ability to exercise discretion and make decisions on matters of significance.
