At Altrad, we’re not just a support services company – we’re the critical human infrastructure that keeps the UK and Ireland’s most vital industries moving. With over 10,000 talented individuals across the region, our people power the extraordinary – delivering innovative solutions that make a real impact on millions of lives.
We’re driven by ambition, creativity, and a collective commitment to excellence. At Altrad, no two days are the same, and no idea is too small. We value fresh thinking, big-picture problem solving, and people who are ready to rise to a challenge.
We’re looking for our next Scaffold Design Engineer to join a high-profile, nuclear new build project. This is your chance to be part of something truly transformative.
As our Scaffold Design Engineer, you’ll take the lead on delivering safe, innovative, and compliant scaffold designs for a major nuclear construction project. From initial concept through to on-site execution, you’ll be the technical authority – ensuring that everything is built not just to spec, but to the highest safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* You’ll act as the lead design engineer for scaffold-related temporary works.
* You’ll create high-quality drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk tools; that means creating detailed engineering calculations that comply with British and European standards.
* You’ll prepare full technical documentation in line with CDM regulations and internal processes.
* You’ll collaborate with design managers, JV partners, site teams, and client representatives to develop the best possible solutions.
* You’ll provide technical support, expert advice, and guidance to the wider team.
* You’ll review and check scaffold designs to ensure they meet BS5975 standards.
What You’ll Bring to the Role:
We’re after someone who blends technical skill with practical insight – someone who’s confident, collaborative, and ready to take ownership of complex challenges.
* You have a qualification in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering (HNC, HND or Degree).
* You have at least 3 years’ experience in scaffolding design.
* You’re proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and ideally structural analysis software.
* You have strong problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and a clear sense of prioritisation.
* You have experience on major infrastructure projects – particularly within highly regulated industries.
* You’re driven by a desire to learn, grow, and contribute to a team that values innovation.
What we offer:
We know that great people do great work when they’re supported, valued, and inspired. That’s why we offer:
* A competitive salary
* 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays
* The chance to work on one of the UK’s most ambitious nuclear projects
* A culture that rewards ingenuity, fosters personal growth, and celebrates success
At Altrad, your journey starts with a commitment to build a better tomorrow – for our clients, our communities, and your career.
