Job Title: Electrical Manager

The Role
We are seeking an Electrical Manager to provide visible, technical, and operational leadership for our Electrical Team. This role is critical in ensuring that all planned and reactive works on the highway network—including street lighting, traffic signals, and other highway electrical systems—are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with statutory obligations.
As the principal technical advisor for highway electrical systems, you will translate industry standards into practical procedures and lead a team of electricians, technicians, and apprentices.
Key Responsibilities
* Operational Delivery: Lead and manage the team in the delivery of all maintenance, construction, and testing for street lighting, traffic signals, and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
* Safety Leadership: Take direct responsibility for the Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental performance of the team, fostering a \"safety-first\" culture.
* Technical Advice: Interpret statutory requirements and industry standards (e.g., BS 7671), acting as the service's lead technical expert.
* Resource Management: Oversee day-to-day scheduling and coordination to ensure efficiency and maximize resource utilization of staff, fleet, and materials.
* Emergency Coordination: Manage an effective out-of-hours emergency response service for electrical faults to maintain public safety.
* Strategic Support: Deputise for senior management in public forums, tactical groups, and partnership collaborations.
Essential Experience & Qualifications:
* Technical Expertise: Detailed technical knowledge of highway electrical legislation, statutory obligations, and relevant codes of practice (e.g., BS 7671, IET Wiring Regulations).
* Industry Experience: Proven leadership or supervisory experience within the street lighting or highway electrical industry.
* Operational Safety: A track record of applying health, safety, and environmental standards in high-risk environments (e.g., NRSWA, Chapter 8).
* Qualifications: Relevant electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 Electrotechnical) and City & Guilds 2382 IET Wiring Regulations.
* Flexibility: Ability to travel independently throughout the area, including work outside of normal hours as required.
Desirable Skills:
* Experience managing operational teams within a public sector or local government environment.
* City & Guilds 2391 (or equivalent) in Inspection and Testing.
* Familiarity with NEC contract forms and asset management principles.
* IOSH Managing Safely or a similar leadership-related qualification.
