Are you passionate about making a real impact in healthcare through compassionate, patient‑centred care? We’re seeking an experienced Senior Speech and Language Therapist (SSLT) to lead transformative change in reducing restrictive practices within our healthcare setting. This role offers the chance to shape patient care, influence policy, and lead a dedicated team focused on dignity and autonomy.
Core Responsibilities
* Lead the newly funded team by working alongside the Clinical Lead Nurse and a senior Occupational Therapist, providing expert clinical guidance and high‑quality assessments for people with highly complex needs and those requiring enhanced observations.
* Deliver the core Speech and Language therapy assessment and interventions, advising the multidisciplinary team on SLT treatment plans.
* Transform inpatient services across the Trust using person‑centred, trauma‑informed, recovery‑based care to provide the least restrictive interventions.
* Support the 14‑day review panel and feed into the Trust’s Safe and Supportive Observation (SASO) strategy.
* Develop managerial and leadership skills while enhancing therapeutic observations through specialist clinical interventions.
* Provide culturally sensitive, individualized services in line with trauma‑informed and personalised care approaches.
* Manage a caseload of clients with highly complex SLT needs, and plan, implement, evaluate interventions in clinic, community and home‑visit settings.
* Develop communication tools and material to support service users and staff.
* Provide leadership for junior staff through supervision, appraisal and mentorship.
* Plan, develop and evaluate SLT services, holding responsibility for defined projects where appropriate.
* Supervise SLT students during practice placement, following attendance at an approved Fieldwork Educator’s course.
* Maintain clinical records using the electronic patient record system and provide detailed feedback to the MDT.
* Provide highly specialist support and education to service users, carers and other staff on aspects of speech and language therapy, such as optimising communication through activity.
* Support the Trust and SLT CPD development programmes as a learner and facilitator.
* Promote SLT through clinical expertise and experience by presenting posters, writing articles for professional publications and attending conferences and special interest groups.
* Adhere to the RCSLT Code of Ethics, professional conduct, national and Trust policies, and ensure ongoing CPD and professional portfolio maintenance.
