A leading contractor within the UK water sector is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team on a permanent basis. This organisation delivers major water and wastewater infrastructure projects and has a strong pipeline of secured work across current and upcoming AMP programmes.

The Role
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead mechanical design activities across a portfolio of water and infrastructure projects. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering technically robust, cost-effective, and buildable design solutions from concept through to commissioning.
The role is based in Chatham, Kent, with flexible hybrid working available.
Key Responsibilities
* Leading mechanical design packages on water and wastewater projects
* Producing and reviewing design calculations, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation
* Coordinating with civil, electrical, and process engineering teams
* Supporting project delivery teams to ensure designs are practical and aligned with construction requirements
* Engaging with clients, suppliers, and key stakeholders
* Providing technical oversight and mentoring junior engineers
* Ensuring compliance with industry standards, health & safety legislation, and client specifications
Candidate Requirements
* Proven mechanical design experience within the water sector or wider infrastructure projects
* Strong knowledge of pumping systems, pipework, treatment works, or related mechanical installations
* Background working for a contractor or consultancy environment
* Ability to manage and deliver design packages independently
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
* Chartered status (or working towards) desirable
