ABOUT US University Arms is a 189-bedroom design-led Hotel situated in the heart of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Overlooking Parker’s Piece is the Hotel’s quintessentially British Restaurant and Bar, Parker’s Tavern, Library Lounge and beautiful wood-panelled Ballroom. Opened in 1834 as a Coaching Inn, University Arms is Cambridge’s oldest Hotel. For 180 years, the Hotel was added to, updated and modernised in the line with the age; however, it was the reopening in 2018 after a four-year £80m full renovation that really positioned the Hotel. WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING As Assistant Restaurant Manager, you will support the Restaurant Manager and Restaurant & Bar General Manager in the day-to-day running of the restaurant, ensuring smooth operations and maintaining the highest standards of guest service. You will lead, motivate, and train the restaurant team, while also being hands-on in service delivery. THE DUTIES Assist in managing the daily restaurant operations, ensuring efficiency and guest satisfaction. Supervise, train, and motivate front-of-house staff. Foster a culture of growth, development, and performance within the department. Maintain high service standards and ensure all team members deliver warm and professional hospitality. Support with staff scheduling, stock control, and financial targets. Handle guest feedback and resolve issues effectively. Work closely with the kitchen and bar teams to ensure smooth communication and service flow. Uphold health, safety, and hygiene standards in line with hotel policies. Have an eye for detail when it comes to the hotel environment. Regularly walk through public spaces to ensure the building is well-maintained and operational areas have an atmosphere that meets or exceeds guest expectations. WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN YOU Passion for Excellence: Your unwavering commitment to excellence in food, beverages, and hospitality is evident in everything you do. You have experience in a luxury, preferably a 5-star hotel, and are known for being flexible, reliable, and adaptable. Previous experience in a supervisory/assistant management role within restaurants or hotels. Strong leadership and people management skills. Flexible and willing to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to remain calm under pressure and lead by example. You are able to exceed customer expectations and drive your team to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
