Principal Contracts Lawyer (Locum) – Local Authority

£60-£75 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Sellick Partnership are currently working with a large and progressive local authority/ unitary to recruit an experienced Principal Contracts Lawyer on a locum basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within a well-regarded legal team, supporting on high-profile and complex contractual matters.
The Role
As Principal Contracts Lawyer, you will join the Corporate Legal Team, supporting the Head of Legal (Corporate) and working closely with procurement colleagues and client departments across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading on a wide range of contractual matters, including goods, services, and major projects
• Managing stakeholder relationships, including external legal providers
• Supervising and supporting a team of lawyers and legal assistants
• Handling a varied caseload of contracts and procurement matters
• Deputising for the Head of Legal (Corporate) when required
• Advising on grant funding agreements and subsidy control
• Supporting policy, strategy, and procedural development
About You
• Qualified lawyer with strong experience in contracts and procurement law
• Proven ability to operate at a senior level
• Experience supervising or mentoring others is a bonus
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Local government experience is desirable but not essential
⏳ Initial 3-month contract with strong likelihood of extension
