Duties
Duties will include, but are not limited to: pre‑anesthesia, peri‑anesthesia, and post‑anesthesia care in outpatient and inpatient setting; administration of general anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, epidural anesthesia, and regional anesthesia in collaboration with other anesthesiologists; perform thorough pre/peri/post anesthesia assessments and develop individualized anesthesia patient care plans; emergency airway management in the hospital, placement of intravenous catheters and intra‑arterial lines and on‑call responsibilities commensurate with other anesthesiologists in the department. The Anesthesiologist will assist with process improvement and quality assurance activities specific to the department.
The anesthesiologist will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of the pre‑anesthesia Nurse Navigators and Physician Assistants. The Section Chief will be an integral part of the leadership team of the departmental section and will actively participate to develop the vision and execution of a coherent, forward‑thinking, and high‑quality service to the benefit of the Veterans. Additionally the anesthesiologist will develop policies and guidelines relating to pre‑anesthesia section, evaluate and recommend privileges for Physician Assistants and participate in the OPPE/FPPE section process, assist with scheduling and leave determination to promote best functionality and performance of the anesthetizing locations, clearly communicate new policies, departmental section goals with the staff; and openly communicate any issues with leadership.
The Anesthesiologist will independently administer and monitor anesthesia care during, to include but not limited to, general surgery, vascular, urology, podiatry, orthopedics, otolaryngology, and ophthalmology procedures by providing services such as:
