Overview
Mechanical Assembly Technician position at our Cotswold Airport Hot and Cold Fuel Test Facility. This is a state-of-the-art, one-of-a-kind site in the UK focused on aerospace propulsion and fuel technologies, including liquid hydrogen systems, hot and cold jet fuel systems, and complex fluid mechanical systems under extreme test conditions.
Responsibilities
* Interpret and construct systems from minimal or conceptual drawings and translate into practical, test-ready assemblies.
* Liaise closely with engineering and test teams to ensure system builds meet specific performance and safety requirements. Install and integrate instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, etc.) into mechanical assemblies.
* Conduct functional checks and troubleshoot fluid systems for leaks, pressure integrity, and performance validation.
* Maintain mechanical equipment and ensure readiness of components and tools required for system builds.
* Ensure safe handling of pressurized systems and compliance with internal safety protocols and industry standards.
* Participate in Test Readiness Reviews to ensure system suitability for test.
* Contribute to development of site best working practices, and champion efficient ways of working.
* Ensure work is carried out in line with relevant HSE best practices and adhering to local risk assessment procedures.
* Contribute to existing site system operations, including operation of facility hydrogen liquefier, jet fuel equipment and other ancillary equipment.
* Be self-motivated and able to complete work to a high standard without direct supervision.
* Ability to work from schematics, P&IDs, or basic conceptual drawings with minimal supervision.
* Proven hands-on experience in the assembly and integration of fluid mechanical systems (tubing, gas/fluid circuits, fittings, etc.).
* Familiarity with pressurized gas and fluid systems, including safety considerations.
* Skilled in using general mechanical tools and equipment for assembly and maintenance tasks.
* Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with design and engineering teams.
* Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving during system build and test preparation.
* Desirable: Experience working in test environments or R&D facilities.
* Knowledge of instrumentation integration (pressure transducers, flow sensors, thermocouples, etc.).
* Certification or training in mechanical or fluid systems (e.g., NVQ, BTEC, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
* Awareness of relevant safety standards (e.g., Pressure Equipment Directive, COSHH, etc.).
