VINCI Building has an incredible opportunity for a Design Manager with experience delivering high-value, complex design work from the main contractor perspective. The role involves organising, planning, programming and managing workloads, and demonstrates a track record of working within the Design Team across projects in healthcare, commercial, and public sectors.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
* Management and delivery of design information in accordance with the agreed design programme and deliverable schedule. Ensuring that our appointed design consultants carry out their duties in line with their appointment, interrogating returns to ensure compliance with standards and brief. Design input at both preconstruction and construction stage of projects. Production of design programmes, design scopes, design responsibility matrices, appointments, and schedules. Attending/chairing necessary meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders. What are we looking for? This role of Design Manager is great for you if you have:
* 4+ years in a Design Manager role for a Tier 1 Contractor in the UK. Degree qualified in a construction-related subject. Professionally chartered MCIOB, MICE or equivalent.
* Experience working on healthcare projects, mid–large-scale projects, and delivering civils, substructure and superstructure structural design packages, as well as façade design packages, including unitised / off-site.
* Specific Tasks & Responsibilities
o Pre‑Contract – Review the Tender Information, determine scope, verify compliance, determine strategy, assess novated Design Team members, prepare fee enquiries, select supplementary Design Team members.
o During Tender Stage – Produce and agree design programmes and deliverables, establish a Common Data Environment, draft Design Management Plan (DMP) and BIM Execution Plan (BEP), develop technically robust solutions, engage specialists, compile design assumptions and risks, review tender returns, evaluate commercial responses, establish planning matters, review BREEAM or undertake design stage assessments, chair workshops, produce technical responses, approve proposals, prepare for interviews, undertake performance reviews.
o Post‑Contract – Review project information, formally appoint Design Team, agree procurement strategy, produce and agree project programmes and schedules, monitor progress, establish and maintain Common Data Environment and file structure, set coordination workshops, produce DMP and BEP, close out assumptions, verify new documentation, manage change control, ensure risk assessments, chair workshops, obtain responses to TQs, monitor documentation quality, review and approve applications for payment, obtain design reports, progress approval of certificates, incorporate changes into As‑Built, assist Document Controller with archiving, produce lessons‑learnt paper, manage off‑site and on‑site design processes.
