About the Company
Our client is a fast‑scaling, entrepreneurial specialist lender operating across bridging, refurbishment and SME‑focused property finance. Known for its agility, commercial mindset and speed of execution, the business is growing rapidly and now requires a strong Portfolio Manager to take ownership of all post‑completion activity.
About the Role
As the Portfolio Manager, you will become the central point of control for the lender's servicing and asset management functions. This includes overseeing redemptions, managing early warning signs, engaging with borrowers in arrears, handling non‑performing loans, and coordinating external partners such as receivers, monitoring surveyors and legal advisers.
You will operate as a senior, trusted decision‑maker able to assess defaulting deals, propose recovery strategies, and determine whether a client is salvageable or if the lender should exit immediately.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full loan servicing lifecycle
Lead the management of non‑performing loans, recoveries and receivership processes.
Underwrite and assess defaulting loans, providing clear recommendations and strategic recovery plans.
Make confident decisions, using a balanced commercial and risk‑aware approach.
Liaise with receivers, solicitors, surveyors, monitoring teams and other third‑party professionals.
Maintain high‑quality borrower communication to resolve issues early and protect the lender's position.
Produce concise, well‑structured reports on asset performance, risks and mitigations.
Work collaboratively with credit, underwriting and operations teams to ensure smooth case progression.
Support the continuous improvement of portfolio processes, systems and controls as the business grows.
Skills and Experience
Experience managing portfolios within bridging, development, commercial property finance or specialist lending.
Strong working knowledge of NPLs, receivership, litigation, recoveries and redemptions.
Ability to underwrite or reassess defaulting cases, understanding borrower position, security, exit strategy and risk.
Confident decision‑maker able to balance commercial outcomes with robust risk control.
Skilled at determining whether a borrower is recoverable or if enforcement is necessary.
Experience dealing with legal teams, receivers, insolvency professionals and monitoring surveyors.
Strong communication, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
More senior and commercially aware than a typical servicing or collections administrator.
