To deliver and sustain the reliability agenda as outlined by the Group Leader (GL) or Production Site Manager (PSM), providing first-line support to all plant and process operations. The role requires active participation in problem-solving and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives using lean tools and techniques, while ensuring effective communication across all levels of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Safety
* Role model safe and hygienic behaviours in line with “Go for Zero” and GMP standards.
* Champion high standards in GMP, HSE, and process control.
* Provide cover for the Engineering Group Leader or Planner when required.
* Flexibly support shift patterns to cover holidays and sickness.
* Undertake additional duties as directed by the GL or PSM.
People & Collaboration
* Participate in emergency response and first aid training; proficient in using PPE and emergency equipment.
* Own and develop a personal learning and development plan.
* Build trust and effective relationships across functions, suppliers, and contractors.
* Support Technical Operators in first-line maintenance and skill development.
* Ensure contractors and suppliers comply with company policies and procedures.
Operational Excellence
* Service and repair pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical equipment to a high standard.
* Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns.
* Lead and track CI projects, applying SMED principles and lean tools.
* Use advanced diagnostics (e.g., PLC data, thermal imaging, vibration analysis) to troubleshoot issues.
* Design out manual interventions and nuisance stops to improve reliability.
Standard Work & Problem Solving
* Perform Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and record activities in CMMS (HolisTech).
* Maintain accurate engineering shift reports and escalate priority issues per site procedures.
* Develop autonomous maintenance schedules and train operations staff.
* Maintain 5S standards in engineering workshop and stores.
Skills & Knowledge
Essential:
* Excellent written and spoken English.
* Strong fault-finding and time management skills.
* Proficient in MS Office and basic IT tools.
* Understanding of engineering schematics (Mechanical/Electrical/Pneumatic/PI&D).
* Experience in fast-paced food manufacturing environments.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Adaptable to change and able to implement improvements constructively.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing and asset management principles.
* Problem-solving using 8 Step thinking.
* Specialisation in Facilities, Services, Electrics, Mechanics, Pneumatics, or Automation & Control.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Time-served Engineering Apprenticeship in FMCG manufacturing.
* NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
