Working closely with our current senior management team, we would envisage the new CEO to develop strategic plans that further our aim and impacts on rural homelessness, building on our success and national recognition within the homelessness sector.
Job Title: Chief Executive Officer
Reporting to: Chair of Trustees
Direct reports: Deputy CEO and Finance Director
This role is a full time post of 37.5 hours per week although from time to time you may be required to work outside or in addition to these hours due to the nature of the charity.
A) Job Purpose:
The CEO is the senior executive responsible, along with the board of trustees, for meeting the Objects of the charity. They are responsible for the vision and ethos of Ferry Project and the delivery of its services; ensuring that the needs of homeless people and the community of Wisbech are central to these.
They must ensure that Homeless people and those with relevant lived experience have a voice in the leadership and design of all the services Ferry Project develops and operates.
Working with the senior management team they are responsible for the employment, development and morale of the staff team. They will provide the overall leadership and strategic direction of the organisation’s ongoing operations, playing a pivotal role in advancing the organisation's mission, achieving its goals, and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
This position involves engaging with stakeholders, commissioners, local and national umbrella organisations and the local community in all its forms.
In addition, the CEO is responsible for promoting and contributing to fundraising efforts, sourcing and developing contracts for new services, overseeing operations, and promoting the organisation's mission to drive extensive and sustainable growth.
B) Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
* Working with the board of trustees, develop and implement a strategic vision and direction for the charity, in line with its mission, values, and objectives.
* Working with the board of trustees and senior managers, develop and maintain the ethos of the Ferry Project.
* Developing and maintaining a strong team that is well trained and has high morale.
* Set clear goals and performance targets to guide the organisation's activities and monitor progress towards achieving them.
* Working with the board of trustees, financial director and senior managers, set clear financial targets to ensure the delivery of services and the future of the charity.
* Ensuring that homeless people and those with relevant lived experience have a voice in the development and delivery of the organisation's services.
* Provide leadership and guidance to the charity's staff, ensuring effective teamwork, communication, and collaboration.
* Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
* The post holder will be responsible for all health and safety across the organisation.
Governance and Board Relations:
Work closely with the Chair and board of trustees to ensure that
* The objects of the charity are met.
* The ethos of the Ferry Project is clear and unambiguous.
* The voice of homeless people and people with lived experience is involved in all decision making of the board.
* They have all the information they need to make informed decisions.
* The board of trustees has good governance practices and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
* The board of trustees has all the information it needs in setting policies, developing strategic plans, and evaluating organisational performance.
* The board of trustees has all the information it needs on the charity's progress against strategic plans, financial status, and key developmental initiatives.
Fundraising and Financial Management:
Work closely with the Chair and board of trustees, the financial director and the senior managers to
* Ensure the current and future delivery of service by the Ferry Project.
* Oversee sound financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and ensuring sound fiscal controls.
* Present fully costed opportunities for investment, development and growth of the charity.
* Maintain and develop a wide variety of independent income streams to ensure the financial resilience of the charity.
* Cultivate relationships with the local community, commissioners, key donors, sponsors, and supporters, to explore existing and new funding opportunities to sustain and expand the organization's programs.
* Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure funds from diverse sources, including grants, donations, and partnerships.
Ambassador:
* Serve as the public face of the organisation, representing its mission and values to external stakeholders, including the local community, government agencies and media.
* Build strong relationships with partners, collaborators, and other relevant organizations to foster collaborations and advance the charity's impact.
* Advocate for the organization's cause, engaging in public speaking, media appearances, and policy discussions to influence relevant issues.
* Encourage the development of the staff team to be local, regional and national leaders in the services the charity offers.
Program Management and Impact Evaluation:
* Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of programs and services aligned with the charity's mission and goals.
* Ensure effective program delivery, monitoring progress, and evaluating outcomes to measure the organisation's impact and identify areas for improvement.
* Promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the organisation to maximize its effectiveness.
Personal:
* To lead by example in all areas by demonstrating excellent attention to detail in personal presentation
* In all activities adhere to the Ferry Project’s policies and procedures.
* To be jointly responsible for the post holder’s own personal and professional development, to actively participate in identifying training needs and to be willing to undertake training where a need has been identified and agreed.
* Oversee the development and maintenance of risk management procedures and appraisal systems for all areas of risk, together with procedures and recommendations on policy in relation to the post holder’s responsibilities, participating in business continuity planning/emergency management activities and making appropriate recommendations to the Trustees.
* Bringing forward opportunities for business growth.
C) Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
Essential:
* A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 3 years at a senior level within the nonprofit or charity sector.
* Strong understanding of the UK charity landscape, especially around homelessness, including relevant laws, regulations, and best practices.
* Demonstrated success in strategic planning, organisational and people management, and achieving fundraising targets.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
* Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with the Board, staff, commissioners and other external partners.
* Financial acumen and experience in budgeting, financial reporting, and resource allocation.
* Passion for the organisation's mission and a commitment to making a positive impact within the homelessness sector.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of how you developed services to prevent homelessness

* PIE (Psychologically Informed Environments)
