Mechanical Design Engineer – Nuclear, Epsom
Job Description
Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives on solving difficult engineering problems? Are you drawn to complex projects and excited by the opportunity to rapidly progress into leadership positions, heading up projects and guiding junior engineers?
If so, you might enjoy solving the energy industry’s most important mechanical engineering conundrums for a multitude of energy systems across a variety of clients. You could be designing test rigs in support of the development of the UK’s nuclear fusion capabilities, carrying out structural integrity assessments of primary plant (for both civil and defence applications) to keep existing fleet generating, designing high integrity structures for new nuclear establishments, or leading renewable energy projects across a growing carbon net zero portfolio. You’re likely to be juggling several projects simultaneously, so enjoying being adaptable is a must! The constant in this role is the complex nature of the jobs and the chance to provide innovative solutions to a range of problems for several clients.
Whichever energy-related projects you get involved in, you’ll be engaged in developing engineering solutions to the industry’s most challenging problems, making a significant contribution to the energy and environmental security of the UK and beyond.
If you are a self-starter capable of delivering multiple projects at the same time, working closely with clients and internal teams to capture requirements, set up projects, and deliver right-first-time solutions, then we’d love you to apply.
Role Requirements:
* Degree qualified mechanical engineer (or relevant qualification).
* Experience in requirements capture, including functional, non-functional, stakeholder, and regulatory requirements.
* Experience in generating design solutions through formal optioneering processes or similar.
* Experience in mechanical engineering substantiation for new designs or existing plant.
* Experience in writing technical reports such as design calculations, safety case reports, and basis of analysis.
* Delivery accountability for mechanical engineering solutions.
* Ability to liaise with, present to, and influence stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
* Proven track record of working effectively as part of a project team.

* Experience working with design codes typical for the engineering industry.
* Experience in working or authoring bids within safety-critical and heavily regulated environments.
* Chartered status or nearing application with a relevant professional institute.
