We are currently recruiting for a Town Centre Community Safety Officer on behalf of our public sector client based in South London.
The role will report to the Head of Violence Reduction Network and will manage the new multi-agency Town Centre team. Previous experience of managing a team and leading a strategic and operational function is required. The role will coordinate, develop and promote multi-agency problem solving in the Town Centre and tasking groups including the JAG, Safer Streets and the Town Centre group.
This is an interim contract role initially for 6 months with view for further extension. The hourly rate is £30.47 per hour PAYE and around £40 per hour Umbrella.
The successful applicant will have previous experience in a community safety related setting, experience of enforcing legislation and partnership and multi-agency working. The successful applicant will need to be able to evidence both strategic and operational management experience, with experience managing a community safety team and establishing and setting KPIs with multi-agency partners.
Key duties will include:
1. Manage the new multi-agency Town Centre team
2. Coordinate the use of Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) across the town centre including the identification of problems and evidence gathering
3. Coordinate services with partners in relation to interventions taking place in the town centre to reflect the objectives of the current Community Safety Strategy and Mayor's Business Plan.
4. Extensive working knowledge and understanding of relevant ASB legislation such as: Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act ; Crime and Disorder Act ; Anti-Social Behaviour Act ; Serious and Organised Crime Act ; Police and Criminal Evidence Act; Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act; Criminal Justice and Public Order Act ; Housing Act ; Human Rights Act; Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act ; Regulation of Investigatory Powers Procedure Act ; Environmental Protection Act ; Highways Act ; Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act, etc.
5. Responsible for the coordinator of services being delivered in the Town Centre
6. Chair meetings on a daily basis with key internal and external partners to coordinate intervention and enforcement taking place in the borough
7. Identify key issues that need addressing in the borough
8. Develop proposals and programme plans to deliver with local issues at short notice and in a professional manner
9. Oversee the commissioning of VSA services for the Town Centre
10. Ensuring VCS partners are delivering in line with funding agreements
11. Liaise with local businesses to prevent and reduce crime and ASB in the Town Centre
12. Ensuring diverse communities and hard to reach groups are also engaged in the community safety agenda
13. Improve public confidence in the police and other agencies ability to tackle crime and ASB
14. Liaise with communications department in order to make the public aware of the interventions taking place in the town centre
15. Work with local policing team applying a problem solving, multi-agency approach to tackling neighbourhood issues
16. Coordinate, develop and promote the Safety Croydon Partnerships
17. Coordinate community safety action days with partners to reflect the objectives of the current community safety strategy and Mayor's business plan
18. Improve the engagement and involvement of local voluntary and community groups in delivering a safer town centre
19. Liaise with local businesses to prevent and reduce crime and ASB in the town centre
