Fancy being the extra pair of hands that keeps a secondary classroom running smoothly?
We’re working with a number of well-led secondary schools across South Tyneside who are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their teams. If you enjoy supporting young people through those all-important teenage years, this could be the role that fits just right.
As a Teaching Assistant in a secondary setting, you’ll support students across KS3 and KS4, helping them stay engaged, organised, and confident in lessons. You’ll work alongside subject teachers, step in where needed, and provide that steady support that makes a real difference.
What you can expect in a Teaching Assistant role:
• Supporting learning across a range of subjects, from maths to humanities
• Delivering targeted small group interventions
• Providing 1:1 support for pupils who need additional guidance
• Reinforcing positive behaviour and clear classroom expectations
• Helping students build independence and self-belief
Secondary schools in South Tyneside are keen to welcome Teaching Assistants who are calm, adaptable, and genuinely invested in helping pupils succeed. You do not need to be a qualified teacher, but you do need confidence, resilience, and the ability to connect with teenagers.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
• Have experience working with young people, in education or similar environments
• Feel comfortable supporting students aged 11 to 16
• Can build positive relationships quickly
• Stay composed when things get busy
• Take safeguarding and wellbeing seriously
Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, ADHD, or autism is highly valued. If you’ve worked in mentoring, youth work, sports coaching, residential care, or alternative provision, your skills will transfer brilliantly into a Teaching Assistant role.
