Job summary Consultant Stroke Physician This exciting opportunity will involve working at the University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM) covering all areas of stroke care, including hyper-acute stroke care, post stroke care and stroke rehabilitation. UHNM is a tertiary referral centre offering a 24/7 thrombectomy service. Main duties of the job The successful applicants will be expected to provide expert patient assessment in the diagnosis and management of patients in both in-patient and out-patient settings. They will be required to actively engage in and develop stroke services and to provide clinical leadership to others. They will work collaboratively with colleagues to provide new ways of working across different professions, organisations i.e. community/primary care. About us University Hospitals of North Midlands has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. From these hospitals we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond. The Trust also provides specialised services for three million people in a wider area, including neighbouring counties and North Wales. Our specialised services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal and dialysis services, neonatal intensive care and paediatric intensive care. We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full GMC Registration MRCP (or equivalent) Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for stroke unit care. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: a.Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) b.Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) application submitted, with evidence provided, and at an advanced stage with outcome expected within a reasonable timeframe (typically within 3 to 6 months), including where delays are due to GMC processes c.European Community Rights Desirable CCT in Stroke Medicine MD, PhD Clinical Experience & Training Essential Sub-speciality training in Stroke medicine Experience in assessing patients for thrombolysis/thrombectomy in Hyper Acute Ischaemic Stroke Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of problems within specialty Good writing and presentation skills Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively. Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures Willingness to develop an area of special interest to fit in with current establishment and service needs Comprehensive training appropriate to this post Desirable Experience of undergraduate teaching Recognized teaching skills course/ medical education qualification Exposure to a variety of working environments Academic Achievements, Research, Publications Essential Experience of conducting clinical audit. Ability to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decisionmaking. Desirable Publications in peer reviewed journals Management and Administrative Experience: Essential Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively. Ability to organise research and work within research governance procedures. Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures. Ability to motivate and develop the multi-disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives.
