Senior Lecturer in Physiology (Respiratory) at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). This is a full-time permanent post focusing on delivering excellence in teaching and academic support, based at the Frenchay campus.
About us
The School of Applied Sciences at UWE Bristol is one of the largest education centres for healthcare science in the UK. It offers BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science Practitioner degree apprenticeship programmes, including Physiological Sciences, Clinical Engineering and Medical Physics Technology. The school also delivers three commissioned programmes: a PGCert in Clinical Echocardiography, a PGCert in Sleep Medicine and a Graduate Diploma in Respiratory Science. We have a strong reputation in delivering both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Biomedical sciences and we are developing a new MPharm programme.
Role and responsibilities
* Support established undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences), BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science, and Graduate Diploma Respiratory Science; contribute to the MPharm and to physiology delivery within these courses.
* Deliver excellence in teaching and provide academic support; contribute to curriculum development, module design and programme development; supervise final year physiology projects.
* Lead in physiology teaching with emphasis on respiratory science; support clinical practice experience where applicable.
* Collaborate with colleagues, benefit from mentorship from an experienced senior lecturer, and engage in ongoing professional development.
* Contribute to Athena SWAN activities and actions related to workload management, flexible working and career development within the School.
Qualifications and person specification
* PhD in a subject relevant to this post or a relevant master’s qualification with significant professional practice.
* Teaching experience across physiology with significant experience of respiratory science.
* Ability to devise and deliver physiology teaching; experience supervising final year physiology research projects; involvement in module and programme development would be an advantage.
* Alignment with UWE values; ability to lead and motivate groups, work collegially, and demonstrate organisational skills; keep abreast of latest developments and external best practice benchmarks.

The successful candidate will be supported by an experienced mentor; the School provides staff development funds to support personal and subject-related training for academic staff.
Location and working arrangements
This post is based at the Frenchay campus, with access to modern facilities and resources. The role may include some remote/home working.
