Specialist Biomedical Scientist, Microbiology (PF)
We are expanding and are looking for an experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist (BMS) who is ready to advance their career in a supportive and collaborative environment. We are proud to be the first laboratory in the UK to offer selected BMS staff the opportunity to read bacterial cultures remotely using BD Kiestra Synapsys technology.
This role is based at our Hub site and forms part of a 24/7 service.
We offer a competitive salary of up to £46,580 per annum (depending on experience), alongside a £10,000 joining bonus for Band 6 BMS participating in shift work, and a wellbeing allowance of up to £1500 per annum.
Main duties of the job
You will play a key role within our Microbiology team, delivering high-quality diagnostic services to two general hospitals and the local GP community.
* Performing and interpreting routine and specialist biomedical investigations
* Providing leadership and support to Trainee BMS, Associate Practitioners, Laboratory Technicians, and MLAs
* Offering technical advice to clinicians regarding appropriate tests and turnaround times
* Ensuring efficient and effective laboratory service delivery

Job responsibilities
In this role, you will rotate through all areas of the Microbiology department, gaining exposure to both automated and manual processes.
Areas of rotation include:
* Automation Laboratory Kiestra TLA, MRSA, and Urogenital sections
* Manual Bacteriology CL3, Mycology, and Waste Management
* NAATs and Urinalysis
* Serology
You will be expected to maintain high standards of accuracy, quality, and efficiency while contributing to continuous service improvement and supporting team development.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* HCPC registered, have at least 2 years post registration experience and have a Specialist portfolio or equivalent in Microbiology. We will consider applications from people nearing the completion of their specialist portfolio.
* Working knowledge of Microbiological manual and automated techniques and practices
* Working knowledge of serology and Molecular biology techniques and platforms
* Able to work with a high degree of accuracy, numeracy, interpretive skills and good problem-solving skills
