We have an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist with a passion for working within medicine to join our clinical pharmacy team at University Hospitals Sussex. This role is for the lead pharmacist for Medicine at St Richards Hospital. The successful candidate will be engaged in actively reviewing patients across our medicine wards alongside our junior pharmacist team and will have close contact with the MDT to provide excellent standards of care. We seek a clinically experienced pharmacist with a passion to develop their skills in this area. As a senior member of the pharmacy team, you will be an integral part of the department and help support and promote our pharmacy and clinical strategies.

We are a department that seeks to be a pioneer with the use of technology with electronic prescribing present on all our medical wards.

You will have delegated responsibility for all our medicine wards and supervising junior members of staff within their rotations. We are committed to providing opportunities for you to develop your clinical & management skills. The Trust holds research as one of its key pillars you will have the opportunity to be involved with and develop skills in this area.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of this specialist post is to lead and provide a comprehensive, high quality pharmacy service for medical patients at St Richards Hospital. The post holder will be an integral part of this service; clinical pharmacy leadership, governance support and providing expert advice.

The post holder will:

• Lead, provide and develop a clinical pharmacy service for medical patients at St Richards Hospital

• Lead a pharmacy team to help operationally and clinically deliver pharmaceutical services to related wards, working closely with relevant surgical and medical pharmacists, supporting and covering, while developing services together.

• Be responsible for all aspects of Medicines Optimisation including the cost effective use of medicines within the Medicine Division.

• Lead on the provision of education to junior pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in a specialist area of interest within Medicine.

• Responsible for the development of policies, guidelines, audits and research relating to the use of medicines within the Medicine Division.

1. Registered Member of the GPhC

2. Member of the UKCPA or other specialist interest group
3. RPS Faculty membership or working towards

Experience

4. Further post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy at PG diploma level or sufficient experience gained in practice to equate to this level of training

Desirable criteria

5. Independent prescriber
6. PG leadership or management qualification

Skills

Essential criteria

7. Significant experience in clinical hospital pharmacy in a broad range of specialties
8. Excellent written and oral communication skills
9. experience in working in an MDT
10. experience of planning and reporting service audits

Desirable criteria

11. working as a specialist pharmacist within a speciality in medicine e.g. cardiology, respiratory etc

People Management and Development

12. General teaching and tutoring experience

Desirable criteria

13. Staff Management Experience
14. Explicit experience with being a DS for a trainee pharmacist
15. Explicit experience with being a ES for a foundation pharmacist
