Responsibilities and Accountabilities
As a Water Treatment Scientist, you will be a key member of the Water Treatment Process team, providing day‑to‑day technical advice to our largest and most critical surface water treatment works. You will look after process issues at your works of accountability, and monitor process performance via reviews of works trends, ensuring we continue to provide the right quality of water to our customers.
The role will be based out of our Tittesworth Water Treatment Works and will support our operational sites across the South Cheshire region. Traveling between sites is part of the role, which comes with a car allowance and participation in an out‑of‑hours standby cover rota. Your other key accountabilities will include reviewing the performance of our Water Treatment Works, participating in water quality improvement initiatives, and identifying and supporting the delivery of operational efficiencies (chemical, energy). You will also define the future of our works by working closely with Process Design Engineers to set new capital projects, improve performance and reduce operational risk.
In investigating water quality issues and failures at surface water works, you will identify root causes, propose mitigating actions for stakeholders, and produce key reports and recommendations. Supporting the identification and reduction of water quality risks is also essential, including completing the water treatment element of Drinking Water Safety Plan (DWSP) audits, executing subsequent DWSP actions, and determining the capital and operational investments needed to improve water quality performance.
Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for someone with excellent technical knowledge of water treatment processes and issues, and the ability to bring solutions to life. Strong communication and influencing skills are essential, as you will deal with stakeholders at various levels, both internally and externally. The role requires the ability to prioritise, plan and deliver outputs to strict timescales, as well as an understanding of operational and customer issues.
Comprehensive IT skills across Word, Excel, SAP, Cognos, QUIS, ESCADA and the ability to interpret trends are important. Demonstrated recent experience of commissioning, plant optimisation and providing process support will be an advantage.
In addition to skills and experience, we value character, positivity, and a caring attitude. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, believing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and want to make a difference because they care.
