Head of Marketing
Introduction to the Torch Theatre
The Torch Theatre (the Torch) is a beacon of creativity in Pembrokeshire with long-standing
national significance and an international reputation.
For nearly 50 years the Torch has delivered life-enriching experiences for the people of
Pembrokeshire and flown the flag for West Wales on international stages. As a producing theatre
we stage classic plays, new writing and our every popular Christmas pantomime. We also present
a wide range of visiting work, including opera, dance, tribute acts, family theatre and stand-up
comedy, alongside a full cinema and live broadcast programme. We also run a season of outdoor
cinema (Sunset Cinema), in some of the most beautiful venues and castles in the county.
We deliver workshops and classes for the local community, including our celebrated Youth
Theatre, and we are home to local amateur opera and drama companies.
The Torch comprises a 300 seat Main House, a 102 seat Studio Theatre, a bespoke art gallery, bar
We have evidenced excellence and integrity, both artistically (winning UK Theatre and Edinburgh
Fringe First Awards) and in terms of leading the charge toward a more equitable and just society
as part of the Craidd consortium.
The Torch has long been the de facto centre for the Arts in Pembrokeshire and South West Wales,
and we take seriously our responsibilities as an Arts Council Wales (ACW) portfolio member. In
the Investment Review of 2023, we were proud to be awarded a considerable uplift to our annual
ACW revenue grant and were the only building based company to receive such an uplift.
The post-lockdown period has been the most challenging in the charity’s history, with huge
changes to audience behaviour and sector stability. However, we enter 2026 with a new sense of
purpose driven by our Strategic Plan alongside a rearticulation of our Vision, Mission and Values.
We are united across the Board, staff team and volunteers to adapt in order to meet our
charitable aims, whilst innovating in our position as one of Wales’s flagship arts venues.
We are building towards a year of celebration to mark the Torch’s 50th birthday in 2027 whilst
creating the environment for the Torch to thrive for another 50 years.
Thank you for your interest in the Head of Marketing role here at the Torch, at what we believe is
an exciting time for the organisation.
We are really looking forward to welcoming a new senior manager to our team who will bring
their expertise in marketing and communications to all our activity, placing emphasis on audience-centred strategies, ensuring we meet our audience and revenue targets.
Over the past few years, the Torch has been through a period of huge transformation, and we are
looking for a Head of Marketing with a mindset for innovation to help us refine and deliver our
commitments to creativity, our communities and improved resilience.
As an arts organisation, creativity is at the heart of everything we do, so we are looking for a
creative leader who will drive improvements, deliver audience-focused campaigns and actively
seek opportunities to make positive change. We deliver over a thousand events each year, every
one of which needs to be shared with potential audiences and other stakeholders. This means
there’s lots of competing priorities in day-to-day work, requiring adaptability, strong leadership
and an ability to support the wider team. Collaboration and excellent communication skills are
vital.
As we approach our 50th anniversary we have the opportunity to reconnect across our
communities, celebrate, and secure the next 50 years of this incredible theatre. We will need your
insight and data analysis to make the most of this opportunity to develop relevant and exciting
plans for our future informed by the voices of the communities we serve.
Across our team we are all learning and growing, with a commitment to living by our value of Fair
Play for all audiences, participants, staff and volunteers. We hope you will join us with a shared
commitment to professional development.
