School Type: Primary SEN School (specialising in Autism Spectrum Disorder)
We are seeking a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a primary school that caters to pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a full-time, long-term position supporting students with ASD.
About the Role:
You will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide tailored assistance, helping create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. Your role involves supporting academic progress, social, and emotional development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
* Assisting with classroom activities and lesson delivery
* Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
* Helping implement individual learning plans (EHCPs where applicable)
* Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals
* Encouraging communication, independence, and life skills
Requirements:
* Experience working with children with ASD or in a SEN environment
* A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
* Ability to build strong, supportive relationships with pupils
* An Enhanced DBS Certificate (on the Update Service or willing to obtain one)
Desirable:
* Experience with communication tools such as PECS or Makaton
* Understanding of sensory needs and behaviour management strategies
